Day 2: I Bleached My Teeth & There WAS a Lesson To Be Learned

Even if it’s dumb or trite as bleaching your teeth – the lesson is: Do it TODAY. Not tomorrow.

For Day 2 of my “365 Days of New” project I decided to bleach my teeth. I know, I know. Bleaching your teeth? So what? Who cares? Trust me – there’s a life metaphor going on here. I’ve had this teeth whitening kit sitting in my drawer next to my sink for THREE YEARS.

A while ago my dentist took a mold of my teeth and gave me some crazy bleach that’s supposed to really get your teeth super white. Problem is you actually have to USE THE BLEACH if you want it to work. Every day since I got the teeth whitening kit I’ve opened the drawer, started at the kit, thought about using it, then closed the drawer and said to myself “I’ll just do it tomorrow.” I’ve been saying that to myself every single day without making any commitment or plan to actually start using it. I’ve been wasting time, money and the opportunity to improve myself all based on the idea that I can just do it tomorrow. Do you have any idea how dumb that is? It’s really fucking stupid. So, as the saying goes… Why put off until tomorrow what you can do today. As I learned, if you wait until tomorrow it might lead to years of procrastination.

I know it’s not as exciting as learning to DJ or some of the other weird stuff I plan to do, but for me this is just as important. It’s a symbolic move in the right direction. Don’t let anything that can even slightly improve your life sit in your drawer for “tomorrow.”

What’s in your drawer waiting for tomorrow?
