I Went to DJ School: Day 1 of “365 Day Project” (With Video)

So if you read my previous post you know I signed a contract with myself to do something new EVERY DAY for the 365 Days. This idea was partially inspired by how utterly and absolutely bored I was while out at a bar last weekend. It was also inspired by an invition I received to try Scratch LA DJ School from my friend Joyce Sevilla of EFG PR. I first saw the post about the DJ school on a friend’s Facebook wall, and I thought it sounded like the type of random thing I’d love to try, but would never actually go and DO.

A few hours later, the same day, I was at a friend’s house and Joyce RANDOMLY called and invited us to come take a lesson at the same exact DJ school that I just saw on my friend’s FB page. The school was miles away and we only had a few minutes to rush out the door and go. The negative voice inside me whispered things like: ”You  only have a few minutes to get there. The traffic in LA is terrible at this time of day. You’ll never make it in time. Why would you even go to DJ school? You would suck as a DJ. Paris Hilton tried to be a DJ. Why try something you don’t even want to pursue?”

Then another voice inside me yelled over the negativity: ”Why are you having all these non-productive, negative and totally self defeating thoughts? Didn’t you just think to yourself that you wanted to try this? This will be fun. You just got invited to do the EXACT thing you wanted to do – for FREE. Go. Go. Gooooooooooooooooo.”

So I did go and it was totally fun! I got to try something new and have fun with my friends while doing it. That’s when I decided it wasn’t just luck that I got invited to try this DJ school. It was the universe telling me something. It’s telling me to do something new every day for the rest of this year. So I’m going to do exactly that and I’m going to write about it here. Here’s a video from my first new adventure – DJ School at Scratch LA!
